DIY EASY Window Cornice Out of Old Art Frames

Image
Hey Friends! Does anyone else have the DIY blogger epidemic where you can no longer throw ANYTHING away just incase there is this AMAZING idea that pops into your head on how to salvage the odd piece of junk you really should have thrown away?  :-) UGGH, this happens to me all the time.  It's not good for the cleanliness of our garage.  So, when I had the glass crack on my picture frame and "should have" thrown it away, the idea came to me that I should make it into a window cornice! (How do these strange ideas come to me LOL) NEW window cornice from OLD useless art frame! All I did was throw out the broken glass, Used the cardboard that it came with and wrapped that in bubble wrap. (It’s just what was handy, as that was the material it had been wrapped up in for the move.) Next I took a pillow sham I bought at the thrift store and wrapped that around the bubble wrapped cardboard. I just taped the fabric to stay together. (if the fabr...

Happiness is Birch Logs in Your Home

Image
Hey Friends! Is there anyone else out there who will see a birch tree and want to chop off a limb just so they can place the logs in their home? :-) You see, I ADORE texture and I ADORE barked trees.  Honestly is there anything more beautiful than rippling crumbling bark full of white, tan and black?  OK, no need to answer that question ;-) I guess I just have this strange passion towards logs - ha! I had a landscape friend that collected a bunch of logs for me.  It was awesome. Here are a few pictures of what I did with the birch logs for my decor. I picked up that iron log holder for 2 bucks at....you guessed it, the thrift store. My fireplace isn't even real, it's gas.....but I just like to trick people that it's real - hee, hee. I also put a few log settings on my front porch.  Can you see why I love them so much??? They are just full of amazing character. As far as CRAFTS rela...

Simple Christmas Ideas for Home Decor and Parties

Image
Hey Friends! There are a few things I've run across lately that I really want to try. For instance, this Heart Cocoa "Marshmallow" :-)  They say just to freeze whip cream and then cut out in heart shapes with cookie cutters. It's so simple and would really be fun. (OK, and pretty...I might need to put on the mittens too just to achieve the whole feeling) :-) source I also love this cute idea of using mini candy canes for food or name holders. I think I could make this :-) source Moving on to home decor...... If I can make my home look this cute decorated with paper snowflakes I'm going to do it!  ha! If you are brave, you can attempt to make the snowflakes yourself or just buy them off Amazon.  They aren't that much. Luna Bazaar Paper Snowflakes The snowflakes come in all sorts of colors. You'll probably have to pin this and save this idea for next year but OH MY GOODNESS - people are so resour...

It's Not Too Late to Inexpensively Decorate Your Mantel for FALL! Tips and Tricks

Image
Hey Friends! The leaves are starting to turn into an array of gold, orange and red and I've even had to turn on my fireplace a few mornings. I like it :-) You can simply and affordably turn your mantel into a Fall masterpiece by adding  natural elements like gourds or mini pumpkins to it.  You can also fill rustic vases with leaf covered twigs, vines or apple branches. rustyheart One of my favorite ways to bring the natural elements inside is with birch logs! You can see my post on how to decorate using birch logs for even more inspiration :-) When decorating, think about using WARM colorful elements like orange and yellows.  Pumpkins are gorgeous on a white mantel - you could even engrave your monogram on it! Or if you are not very good with a carving knife, you could just use a black sharpie and draw a fancy letter. You could also create some of your own natural art with leaves. You guys know how much I enjoy decorating for LE...

What Happens When You Use a Bike as a Sink?

Image
Ah, sometimes the CREATIVITY of people blow me away! I so enjoy people who think outside the box.  I wanted to show you some of the best recycled home decor items I have seen lately. Does anyone have a cool old fashion BIKE they were thinking of getting rid of? :-) benjamin bullins You could also find old unique bikes on Craigslist for not a lot of money.  I love how they used the front basket for washcloths.   What about using vintage truck springs as your barstool base?  It really looks great with the weathered wood kitchen island.   Here they used a giant farm sink transformed into a unique bathroom statement.  How about these re purposing items in home decor: This person took a cattle trough and installed a fiberglass liner in it. (She said the whole thing cost her 90 bucks!)  I could definitely see this in a farmhouse style home. Kim from Baileywife  had an old water trough a...

Henna Tattoo FUN! A Great teenage PARTY idea.

Image
Hey Friends! This next little project would be fun for a girl of ANY age .  Yes, even a girl in her, ahem, 30's would love it ;-) I could totally see a teenage girl party having a BLAST with this stuff! My daughter bought some henna and the next thing I knew, I was making pretty designs on her arm :-)  (Obviously, when you are a teenager, you do NOT like your picture taken I guess!) Henna just put on..... After the henna dried and was "picked" off :-) The great thing about henna is it's all natural (plant based) and it just lightly stains the skin.  It will last about a week.  This is the same henna as some people use in their hair. (And yes, when you are 8, you LOVE your picture taken! I had about 10 different little poses of her but to her dislike, I only put ONE on here)  :-) NOW for the run down on how to do this yourself!  After a bit of research we decided on this henna powder .  It was a great pr...
