Create the Look You Always Wanted With Great Accessory Purchases.

Hello Friends!

As this post goes out I am actually on the East Coast (I live on the West Coast) helping a friend completely accessorize her home.  How fun is that? :-)

Having accessorizing on my mind, I thought it would be fun to show you different accessory vignettes and inspirations.  I created a list with my friend of some BASIC home decor accessories that REALLY add a designers touch to your home.  These are actual things she ordered off Amazon that will hopefully arrive by the time I'm there :-)  

First thing to do if you want to create a designer look in your own home is come up with a inspirational picture or create a mood board of a bunch of your favorite looks. A mood board is a type of collage consisting of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition. 

 These were some of my friends inspirational pictures:







After discussing the options together,  these are some of the things she bought:


1.) A pair of wall sconces

(GREAT for on either side of any art piece or mirror!  She just got these in and said they were beautiful!!)

2) A set of pillar candles

(These go so well on ANY mantel area or table top - make sure and get the varying heights!)

3) Large wall clock

(It's hard to go wrong with a wall clock, you can find a spot for this type of thing anywhere!)

4) Greenery

(Buy large for the corner of the room and small for all your table tops. I can not stress enough how much greenery adds to a room!)

(My friend also purchased a mirror at a great price at an antique shop. We will be spraying the frame Krylon's Oil Rubbed Bronze as right now the color doesn't fit it - SUCH an easy fix!)

I mentioned to my friend she really needed a console table (as that is where a lot of these accessories belong!) and a few weeks later, she sends me a photo of a console table her husband just built for her.  Um.....OK!!   (AMAZING.....her husband is like a magic genie!)  :-)





So there  you have it - what I am up to this weekend!  I'll be sure and take lots of pictures and show you guys the final before and afters.  :-)  It will be fun.

Make Large Canvas Wall Art Out of An Old Map

On my last trip to Pottery Barn opps, I mean my local thrift store, I ran across this old globe.  I loved the robin’s egg blue colors but the ugly plastic really threw me for a loop – oh wait!  No it didn’t, I have SPRAY PAINT!  So I quickly went home and applied my beautiful gold and brown spray paint to the plastic.  Wonders never cease – it looked fabulous.  It reminded me that I had previously picked up an old slightly laminated MAP from the same thrift store and I began to wonder what I could do with my new found globe and matching map???? Tick tock, tick tock, my creative juices were coming…….  (globe was $3.00) Ah Ha!  My son needed something on his wall in his room and since that is where I put the globe how about matching wall art!  I went to Michaels and picked up a bunch of canvases at 40% off.  I traced around the canvas and cut out each rectangle.  The overall map size was 31”x 50”.  T...

French Furniture Painting w/ Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Blue

Do you guys like entering giveaways?  I try to enter them because wouldn’t it be fun to win?? Well I DID win some chalk paint from Southern Hospitality’s Blog by Stylish Patina the other day.  (super cool, I checked and I was 1 out of 250 – wow!)  Anne Sloan Chalk Paint So I get this chalk paint and wax in the mail and to be honest with you I had NO IDEA what this stuff even was???  I totally had to research on the internet and hope to find other blogs that have used it.  I did – actually a LOT of bloggers have written posts on it, one of my favorites was Perfectly Imperfect .  I guess this stuff is the HOT product on the market. Want to know why????? There is NO need for SANDING OR PRIMING your furniture piece before you start!!! Yep you heard me right – you get to completely skip those LONG tedious steps!  I always felt so scared of painting furniture because I always thought I wouldn’t do it “correctly”.  I have spray paint...

Pottery Barn Knockoff–Distressed Clock Decor

Ahhhhhh Pottery Barn.  The gorgeous pictures, the GIANT price tags.  If only we could re-create for less everything we see in that magazine.  Well today’s post will give that a try  – Pottery Barn for under $10.00.  Yep, that’s right, this next project cost me around 6 bucks.  When I was at the thrift store I spotted this lonely round board.  It was almost 2 feet around, insanely heavy and covered in laminate but I thought hummmm……this has some CLOCK potential!  So I bought it for a whopping $1.50. Here is the lovely BEFORE picture: And here is the AFTER: Now how I got there.  :-) First I distressed the plastic and wood by sawing the edges, hammering the center, and quickly sanding the entire circle.  I didn’t spend a lot of time doing this because I had another idea to help with the distressing which you’ll see in the next few steps.
