On Thanksgiving my aunt had these stacked along the entry to her house. The glowing, sparkly wet candles looked so amazing. She used large gallon containers but said you could even make giant ones out of a 5 gallon buckets (wouldn't that look amazing!)
My daughter and I started with a set of little ones.
Next we put them outside to freeze. It took our water glasses overnight to get to the correct freezing point. You don't want them 100% frozen - just about 75% solid. Tip upside down and run some warm water around the cup or bucket and out comes your amazing ice candle holder and the extra water which makes up the space for your candle!
If you have any questions just leave a comment and I'll be sure and answer them. Can you imagine red holly berries (or even cranberries) layered in the bottom of a gallon size one? Any other ideas? Is anyone going to try this? We'd love to hear!

Ahhh, these look AMAZING. we usually do luminaras on our driveway Christmas eve--if I can find the time, I might try it ice luminaras this year!!

i made these last year and added cranberries before freezing. they came out x-tra beautiful with the cranberries encased in the ice and when they melted, the birds had a cranberry treat!

Another easy way to make them is to use cans of veggies to make the space for the candle - put the veggies in the bucket - fill with water and freeze. My step-mom made these when a friend of hers got married - to line the steps of the church - she made them in ice cream buckets and put several buckets in her deep freeze!

Beautiful, if we ever get any snow here near Denver I am going to have to try this. It has been in the 50s-60s all month and I am loving it. Now I am kind of wishing for a little cold weather for New Years.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea!!! Hubby even thinks it grand, he is an avid white light installer (sometimes it looks like an airport here). We will try it eventually but it's touch and go in Vancouver (cold enough).
I think we're probably done with our cold weather now, or atleast the coldest weather maybe but i think these would be lovely at Christmas and New Years Eve. I did once freeze something and it looked candle like but i didn't know what to do with it and never thought to put it outside bar photographing it lol

I saw these on TV years ago. I made one...however, I lived in Calif., so I had to keep it in the freezer most of the time!!! It was beautiful and we loved it while it lasted!!!
