House Tour part SIX–the Downstairs

I saved the best for last!  OK, I really didn’t do that.  The downstairs is pretty much my husbands, along with the garage.  It will have his arcade games, his big TV, his office and the leather couch he picked out.

I suppose I get to add a little decorating flair to it, put really, it’s his.  Smile He plans to add a pool table at some point in time.

But I can’t just skip it so here it is!!!

Kids Rooms:

I’ll just show one of my kids rooms.  Not decorated they all kind of look the same.  This one is my favorite though, the house designer made all the kids rooms up in the rafters of the house so they have those fun low angled walls.  Oh, it will be fun to show you this room finished!!!!

That’s the upstairs!  I have a lot of decorating to do. (long sigh, I’m tired!!)  Give me a little while but I promise I’ll have a bunch of fun posts with all the completed rooms.

Thrift Store Specials–Birds, Leaf Plates and More

I know,  I banned myself from thrift stores but I guess it’s like saying I’ll go off chocolate forever……you just crave it too much to quit – ha!

I snuck back in yesterday and thought it would be fun to show you what I got.

Bargains + Shopping = Fun for ALL!

These heavy birds were so cute!  The big one had a price tag of $32.00 from whatever store they were originally bought.  I got both birds for $7.00.

I found a good place for them which always makes me happy Smile  (verses no spot for them and my husband starts to believe I am a thrift store hoarder)

I really thought this leaf plate was pretty.  It’s actually quite big (about 10” by 12”) and it’s by Hull Pottery which is selling on eBay for around $20.00.  I got this for $7.50.

These small little pumpkin plates were just too cute to pass up (right??) Open-mouthed smile  At least at $1.50 for both they were.

And last but not least, I found this pretty turquoise bracelet for $2.00.  Isn’t it fun!!!

Can you see why I just can’t keep away from my little thrift shop???

  *Sigh*

Thanks for stopping by and letting me show you what I found – dare I say till my next thrift store shopping trip???  Smile

Easy DIY curtains–Tuscan Style

Alright, for those wanting to make something similar to the curtains I showed you in this picture, here you go!

blog rustic tuscan master bedroom

I bought my fabric using a 50%  off coupon (always Google the fabric store and coupon, you can usually just print off a great coupon right away!) Actually, I think this was already marked 50% off so I just bought it. (but I normally always use a coupon)

I measured out how many inches from top to bottom I would need and added 3” extra for the hem on top and 5” extra for the hem on the bottom.  The hems not only gives the curtain nice weight on the bottom, it will just look cheap if you try to skimp on the bottom hem.

Since my fabric could unravel quite easily I did use my sewing machine just along the fraying side in a zig zag stich to keep the frayed ends together.

Not only is my sewing machine ancient, I am definitely not a good seamstress!  (so don’t look too closely)

I bought some iron-on adhesive tape.  (like Stich Witchery)

You can cut pieces of the adhesive in advance according to length of the hem for quick placement.

Once you have placed them in the hem pocket (I would pre-iron the hem amount) just take a damp clothe and put it over the area that you have the tape in!  Hold down for a few seconds (you can hear it sizzle) and move to the next spot.

VOILA!!  You now have pretty curtains!!  I liked the master bedroom curtains so much I went back and bought more fabric and made some for the master bathroom.  You can buy the rods and the clips almost anywhere but I bought mine at Home Depot.

Hope that inspired some of you to give iron on hemming a shot!

World Map Inspiration and Sneak Peak into my Sons Room

First off, I had no idea when I did that World Map project that it would be my second highest viewed post right under my Clock Pottery Barn Knockoff.  (Close to 15,000 views!)  I am soooo happy that people like it and have been inspired to make their own version.

I just had a reader send me her version of my canvas map and it is BEAUTIFUL.  I told her I have to show you guys.  Here is Nicholle’s map she made.

Don’t you just LOVE it!!!  The colors are perfect and the edges, everything!  She is super sweet so hop on over to her blog and read up on how she tweaked the project.

Here’s another picture of the World Map I did:

Has anyone else out there in blog land made this map project??  Please send me a photo – I love seeing what you guys have done with ANY of the projects I’ve posted on here.

I’ll give you guys a sneak peak  where I put this in my new home Smile  Still in my son’s room but with an added twist!  It’s his “Explorer” room now.  I’ll give you a full shot of his room soon.

A little trick I did this time when hanging it was I hot glued flat headed thumb tacks onto each corner and let it dry thoroughly (like 20 min).  It made it SOOOO easy to just line up and lightly hammer into the wall.

And I think I’ll just attach a few more shots to build up some suspense Smile so that you guys will keep reading the blog – at least I’ll try Smile

Pottery Barn Explorer Pillow – Those are the colors in his room.  (of course, I did get the pillow on sale!! You guys know I’m too thrifty to buy it full price.)

More my kind of price tag – thrift store ship for $1.50
