There are some posts I  get really excited about showing you.  This is one of them.  I first saw this on  Christina's blog the  Frugal Homemaker .  Ri ght away I got to work on my plate collection (that I had planned to do for months!)  This is in our guest bathroom.   As mentioned before in my Top 10 Decorating Tips , hanging plates on your wall is an incredible way to make a statement VERY inexpensively.  You can also see my other post on monograming or personalizing a plate before you hang it on your wall. Previously, I bought Heavy Duty Wall Hanger for around 3.00 a piece but as I mentioned above it wasn’t tell I ran across a post by Christina telling me how to make FREE plate hangers that got me started on the plate wall I had always planned for my guest powder room.  STEP 1 Start a collection of thrift store plates, whatever your style is. Coastal White? Old World Pottery? Victori...

Guest Post - Letter Monograms out of Buttons!

Image
Without further ado......this is my friend Heather from Mom4Life blog :-) Hi Creative Juices Decor readers!  I am a former scrapbook junkie. Although I no longer "scrap," I have yet to officially get rid of my supplies. This recently worked to my advantage when I came across an idea on Pinterest using buttons. "I have buttons," I thought. "I need to make this!" The project was not only fun, but proved to be a lovely addition to the mantle above our fireplace (just don't look too close because I see that one button has apparently gone rogue). Want to make one of your own? Here's how: 1) Print off the letter you wish to use for your monogram from your computer in the font and size of your choice. 2) Cut the letter out and discard. 3) Place your letter stencil over the fabric you wish to glue your button's on. 4) Arrange your button's to your liking inside the border of your stencil. 5...

Painting the Exterior of the House- Listing the Colors: A Brown Color Scheme

Image
I suppose a few of you might have wondered why I haven’t ever shown you the exterior of the home.  Since we built in the middle of winter, the contractor had to wait tell we had a week of perfect and warm weather in order to get the painting done.  The painting just wasn’t going to happen right when the house was finished! So we waited and waited…….There may have been a few other homes scheduled before us…… House pictures BEFORE we painted (some people thought it was painted already!) I guess it doesn’t look bad, it was just not what I had in mind for the colors) Back Exterior Before: Choosing the colors was very hard!   Interior colors come much easier for me. I love all kinds of colors, moss green and a beautiful grey blue can look amazing on a home but I decided I was going to go classic brown.  I suppose I was playing it safe, but I love safe and classic! :-) One thing that makes choosing exterior paint hard is that you have FULL su...

Fun Mikasa “Poppies” Plates!

Image
What do you think of these plates??!!!  Are you sighing like I am??  They are Mikasa plates from the Poppies Collection. They had JUST come in at Costco and didn’t even have a display set out yet so I  took it upon myself to start the display set and undid a box (OK, only part of a box, and when one of the Costco workers came around the corner, I pretended I hadn’t touched anything and was looking at a different item a few feet away.  He just looked at the dissembled box, shook his head and continued to nicely lay it all out so wacked out people like me could see what prettiness lies under the box!)  I justified my purchase by the fact that the night before, my spastic wonderful dog came up to do his normal “licking of the plates” routine in the dishwasher while I did the dishes and his collar caught on part of the dishwasher and the noise FREAKED him out so he literally JUMPED up and down (while still attached to the dishwasher rack) while I just stoo...
